About University

Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University (BKNMU), a State University was established by Government of Gujarat vide Gujarat Act. No 23 of 2015 on 16th September, 2015, situated near Junagadh city of the Saurashtra region, Gujarat State, India. The idea of new university conceived by Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the seed of inception was laid down by Honourable former Chief Minister of Gujarat-Shrimati Anandiben Patel. The jurisdiction of the University includes Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath and Devbhumi Dwarka districts.

There are more than 160 affiliated colleges and more than 1,00,000 students are pursuing their degrees UG, PG and Research in various disciplines of sciences, commerce, arts, medical and paramedical. The university has different collaborations with national and international institutes for research and student related activities. The students of the university have gained achievements in different scientific and cultural activities at national and international levels.

About Department of Chemistry and Forensic Science (DOCFS)

The Department offers Post graduation and Ph.D. programme in Chemical Sciencesand Post-graduation in Forensic Science. The Master program offers specialization inOrganic and Analytical chemistry which fully emphasis on Medicinal chemistry andAnalytical techniques. The Forensic Science Programme offers Specialization inchemistry & Toxicology. The PG programme accomplishes basic requirements forpharma and chemical industries, academic institution and research studies. The thrustarea of research includes synthesis of organic compounds with medicinal interest,molecular modelling, fluorescence studies, impurity profiling, stability study, naturalproducts, thermodynamics and computational chemistry. Department’s accomplishments are a testament to its commitment to academic and researchexcellence. Department has published several quality research articles and holdsseveral patents. It is noteworthy that, though the Department is only 5 years old, it hasexcellent placement records in a very short duration.

About Department of Life Sciences (DLS)

The Department of Life Sciences (DLS) established in the June 2017, stands as abeacon of excellence in the field. Offering specialized Post graduate (PG) and Ph.D.programs in Botany, Microbiology, Zoology, and a unique Higher PaymentProgramme (PG) in Environmental Science. DLS takes pride in its rich publicationrecord, a testament to the faculty's dedication to advancing knowledge. The LIFE (Lifesciences Initiative in the Field of Environment) society, led by committed officebearers, further amplifies the collaborative spirit within the department. Faculty members have secured research grants from prestigious agencies such asSERB and GSBTM, reflecting their prowess in securing competitive funding. Thedepartment places significant emphasis on collaboration, both nationally andinternationally, which enriches the research landscape. Additionally, thedepartment's regular activities, ranging from expert lectures to field excursions,provide a holistic educational experience. With a distinguished faculty, includingexperts in plant stress physiology, environmental microbiology, MicrobialMetagenomics, Ecology biodiversity, Marine Biology, Taxonomy, Arthropods, etc.,DLS equips its students to become the next generation of scientists, researchers, andeducators in the field of life sciences.
